Monsoon moving fast; moderate showers likely in Gurugram over 4 days

GURUGRAM: After reeling from scorching heat for the past few days, the city is likely to witness light-to-moderate rainfall over the next three-four days as a low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal and it is moving towards the north-western region, India Meteorological Department officials said.
On Friday, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 38 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was 23.2 degrees Celsius.
The relative humidity was at 61%.
A day earlier,, the city witnessed gusty winds with 8mm rain which also resulted in power disruption in several areas.
“A low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal.
The light rain in the city is a result of the low pressure along with easterly winds laden with moisture.
Under its influence we are expecting rainfall in the region in the 12 to 14 days with fairly widespread thunderstorms.
Temperature will likely see a 4-6 degrees Celsius drop during the period,” said Kuldeep Srivastava, head of IMD regional weather forecasting centre.
As per IMD officials, the onset of monsoon too is likely to be early this year.
According to the IMD’s weekly forecast, the maximum and minimum temperatures will remain around 38 and 23 degrees Celsius, respectively, on Saturday.
On Friday, the city’s air quality index (AQI) improved slightly but remained in the moderate category.
The reading was at 126 as against 186 on Thursday.
According to the IMD official, change in wind direction has caused an improvement in the air quality and it will further improve over the next three days.
