Hyderabad: With agricultural operations in the full swing of the monsoon season, Covid-19 prevention measures have gone for throws in the agricultural sector.
This resulted in a sharp surge in positive cases, causing concern among agricultural experts and officials.
A total of 29 farm workers have been positively tested for Covid-19 in the Jagtial District.
With many of them traveling together in Auto or other transportation ways and not maintaining social distance, Covid-19 cases have seen leaps lately.
Sarpanch Mallavva from Muddutla Village in Malyala Mandal held a testing camp in the village after several farm laborers showed symptoms of Covid-19.
A total of 10 of them have traveled in the packaged autos are tested positively.
Of the 130 people tested in the village, 29 was tested positively.
This village is now in the ‘forced own’ lock until the end of July.
This is at the beginning of the Kharif season that the most sought-after farm workers.
It’s also the time when they get a good wage.
“Because they are drinking, they prefer to go where they tend to get more wages.
They travel in groups to save money,” Ponnam Satyanayana, said the jagtial native residents.
The Indian Agriculture Research Council has suggested that farmers take precautions and safety measures needed to prevent the spread of the virus.
It is said that social distance norms must be followed and agricultural workers must maintain personal hygiene, wear facial masks and clean tools and machines.
It is also recommended that agricultural workers must maintain a distance of three to four feet among themselves while taking food or involved in work.
“There is no negligence in parts of agricultural workers.
We have seen that they are careful.
However, there may be some encouragement arising from the economic crisis that forces them to travel together,” said GV Ramanjaneyulu from a sustainable agricultural center.
“Agricultural workers need protection against Covid-19 and the authorities must ensure that they are inoculated,” he said.
Senior Department of Agriculture officials said agricultural workers had to follow all prevention and norms of Covid-19.
