Monsoon Session: Parties demanded the recovery of MPLAD funds

New Delhi: Various parties, including Congress and TMC, on Sunday demanded the recovery of MPLAD funds, at a meeting of all parties chaired by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, said the source.
He assured them that he would increase the problem with the government and the top officials, they said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and floor leaders from various parties were present at the meeting of all traditional parties on the night of the Monsoon Parliamentary session.
The session will begin on Monday and conclude on August 13.
The leader of the Congress at Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, TMC Leader Sudeep Bandopadhyay, YSR Congress leader Midhun Reddy is among those who raised the issue of Mplad funds during the meeting in the presence of the Pralhad Joshi Minister of Affairs Parliamentary, said the source.
Birla also told members that they would be given an adequate opportunity to discuss the problems of public interest and appeal to them to work with seats in a smooth home behavior.
In the meeting, Birla speakers praised the leaders of their support for the last five sessions, said an official statement.
He also appealed them to continue their cooperation during the Monsun session too, he said.
Political party leaders convinced the speaker that they would expand all cooperation in a smooth function from home.
Then, talking to reporters, Birla said he had asked party leaders at Lok Sabha to respect the sanctity and dignity of the house and seek their cooperation for the smooth running of the house trial.
He said that the house represents the collective will and aspiration of the state and it is the responsibility of members to voice the worries of the people they represent, while maintaining the decorum and rules of the house.
The speaker said that the house belonged to all members and he would give them all sufficient opportunities, including those from small parties and single member parties, to participate in the process so that more and more public interest problems could be discussed.
Birla told that for this session, a broad setting had been made for the safety of members, officials and media in accordance with the Covid protocol.
He also noted that an application was being developed which would be a “one-stop solution” for all parliament problems.
The Monsun Parliament session was the sixth session of the 17th Sabha and submitted to the urgency of the government’s business, would conclude on August 13.
There will be a total of 19 sittings.
