BHUBANESWAR: A low pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal on Friday would cause widespread rainfall in the state in the next three days leading to the spread of southwest monsoon to rest of the state, said a latest forecast by the IMD.
H R Biswas, director of regional IMD centre, said the monsoon that hit the Odisha coast on Thursday, failed to advance further on the second day.
“But conditions are favourable for further advance of monsoon.
It is likely to cover the state in next two days with low pressure induced rain,” he said.
On the first day, monsoon covered eight of the 30 districts completely and eight more districts partially, the official report said.
Biswas said most places in the state would receive rainfall on Saturday under the influence of the system.
There were also red, orange and yellow warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at few places in selected districts during the day.
The intensity would be concentrated in north interior pockets on Sunday.
Thereafter, the intensity would decrease, he said.
The IMD has warned of waterlogging and flood-like situation at some places due to heavy rainfall.
The state government has kept collectors on alert and advised them to take necessary steps depending upon the situation.
“The districts under red, orange and yellow warning have been asked to remain prepared to meet any waterlogging or flood-like situation or landslides in hilly areas,” stated a letter sent from office of special relief commissioner (SRC) to collectors.
For Saturday, six districts were issued red warning for heavy rainfall.
These are Sambalpur, Sonepur, Balangir, Boudh, Bargarh and Angul.
Besides, eight and 16 districts were issued orange and yellow warning of heavy rain respectively.
Official rainfall report said many places in the state received light to moderate rainfall in last 24 hours under the influence of a low pressure.
