Mumbai: The Association of Bank India (IBA) has been looking for promises with Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot and has written to the Secretary of the Head of State, expressing the concern of OV-EH police actions in arresting the former SBI chairman without participating in the process.
On the day when Pratic Chaudhuri, the former SBI chairman, was denied guarantees by the court in Rajasthan, more bankers expressed concern over the arrest of summary of senior bankers.
Iba said that it would look for an appointment with Chief Minister Rajasthan will also write to the main secretary.
Fir has been canceled by the Supreme Court.
“I don’t know the facts of this case but, based on what I have read, we really need to have a criminal justice system that protects bonafid actions by bankers for recovery of their money,” said Veteran Banker Uday Box.
He added that there must be a method where the action must be protected.
Explaining the arrest as a unfortunate incident, Union Bank MD & CEO of Rajkan Rai said that the authorities must understand the banker’s perspective before taking such drastic action and it was not good that the arrest was carried out without an investigation.
“This disturbs us that the former SBI Chair has been arrested for decisions that do not come to the chairman level,” Rai said.
In an interview with CNBC, the former Head of the National Bank of Punjab and CBA Secretary Sunil Mehta said that the action would play a negative role in the moral banker because the bank had to take many decisions like that.
He said that for every decision regarding the disposal of NPA, there was a legal process documented.
He added that even Chaudhuri joined the Bow Board would have subsequently with the legal process.
