TOKYO: Tokyo Olympic organisers intend to give about 150,000 condoms in the next month’s Games, however are enabling athletes to carry them home instead of use them at the Olympic village in which social distancing principles and coronavirus steps are the best priority.
Huge quantities of condoms are given out in the Games because the 1988 Seoul Olympics to increase awareness of HIV and AIDS, and also organisers stated the International Olympic Committee had asked their continued supply.
But athletes are advised to maintain their distance from one another, meaning fewer chances to innovate and much more.
“The supply of condoms isn’t to be used in the athlete’s village, however to get athletes accept them back into their home states to increase consciousness” of both HIV and AIDS problems, stated Tokyo 2020 in an emailed response to queries from Reuters.
Officials have barred overseas audiences and are requesting people who do attend the postponed event to demonstrate their support with clapping instead of encouraging or singing to attempt to decrease the chance of spreading virus.
Dining has come to be just another issue to solve.
Organisers were initially planning to feed inhabitants of their village at enormous dining halls — the biggest one having a capacity to seat 4,500 individuals simultaneously.
Now, however the organisers will request athletes to float alone, keep social distancing along with other people, and then wipe surfaces down after ingestion.
“With no right steps in place, it’s only going to require 1 person to bring from the virus and then spread it, particularly in areas such as the athlete village,” Nobuhiko Okabe, among those infectious disease experts notifying Tokyo 2020 on its own coronavirus steps said in a news conference on Friday.
“We must do what we can to ensure that an outbreak does not occur, and we actually want the collaboration of all of the athletes along with delegations to produce this job,” he further added.
