Mexico City: Inspector has found 21 more cracks in the welds or steel structural parts on the elevated subway lines that have a collapse section in May, killing 26 people, Wednesday official said.
Studies on the fall found failure caused by construction defects such as poor welds and missing connection buttons and poor designs.
The newly found cracks are in other parts of the lines that don’t collapse.
Inspection is only about a third finish, so that more defects like that might be revealed.
The outer inspector has been invited as part of an effort to reopen and strengthen the line, including some of the Nuevo Leon autonomy university.
Carlos Slim Construction Telecommunications and Magnets said that the Grupo Carso construction subsidiary will pay the cost of rebuilding the ranges that collapse and strengthen other parts of the high line to meet higher standards in severe earthquakes.
Earlier this year, Mexico City Prosecutor announced criminal charges against 10 “individuals and companies” for construction and design damage.
In the case of the company involved, the prosecutor said the purpose of criminal demand was intended to make them pay or repair good damage to the subway and the victims.
These costs are for negligent or accidental murder, damage and cause injury.
Inspection of the collapsed part quoted well welded, conveniently located and truly lost buttons intended to join the steel support beam to the concrete layer that supports track bed.
The prosecutor also quoted a bad weld in the steel beam underlying the concrete track bed which failed to obey or separate.
Steel struts are intended to stiffen metal beams too short or not properly installed, and the lid of elevated is not designed with enough safety margins.
In the past, several companies involved in building a line of more than a decade ago claimed that further repair work put too much weight on the elevated part.
The $ 1.3 billion line of the Mexico City metro system was built between 2010 and 2012 when the current foreign affairs secretary Marcelo Ebard was the mayor of the capital.
Ebrard was seen as one of possible competitors to replace President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
This project is disrupted by the cost overruns and alleged design defects, corruption and conflicts of interest.
The city was forced to close the line in 2014, only 17 months after being inaugurated, so traces could be replaced or repaired.
The collapsed part is still closed since May.
