Chennai: Heavy rains that began to hit the city and suburbs late on Wednesday could continue on Thursday because the depression increased above Bengal Gulf would likely cross the beach close to North Puducherry and South Andhra on Thursday night.

Some regions in Chennai continued to be flooded by rainwater on Wednesday.
N Puvarasan, Director, Area Cyclone Warning Center, IMD, said this system tended to carry a very heavy rainstorm in several places and isolated very heavy rain in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Chengalpet.
“There will be more rain than the wind.
The wind surface on the land close to the beach will be in 30kmph and there will be no wind in the interior area.
After crossing the beach, it will weaken,” said Puviarasan.
The official said the intensity of rainfall in Tamil Nadu interior districts may be lacking and the warning issued for the Puducherry District, Cuddalore and Delta has been withdrawn because of the chances of heavy rainfall in this district are low.
“Unlike cyclones, which have the center, depression does not have it.
The location of the intersection change is in accordance with the cloud formation,” he added.
As on Wednesday, around 30 fixed floods, and the civil body has provided sanctions ₹ 20 lakh for all 200 wards to buy food for people and arrange machines for flood assistance.
