Coimbatore: A car and motorcycle parked in Ram Nagar was broken after the tree fell on on Monday.
The Mayflower tree is one of the many exotic trees planted along the city road that cries for attention because of the weak potential, which can fall at that time time.
Many of them were two decades who had highlighted the condition of the tree last month after the rain was incessantly weakening them.
While the authorities make sure to identify these trees and trim branches to avoid accidents, very few are done in this matter.
At Krishnan Ram Nagar said that officials did visit the next day, but did not take action.
“They must be sensitive to the lives of passengers because it is one of the busy roads in the city,” he said.
While the original species are planted along the rural areas and highways, exotic species are seen in the city limits, said G Aravind, said G Aravind from Gandhipuram, a nature lover.
“Exotic trees are preferred when they grow quickly, but they come at a cost, the commuter is forced to bear.” Such incidents can be avoided if City Corporation has cut vulnerable tree branches, said M Loganathan, the Federation Coordinator for sustainable development.
“City Corporation does not have a comprehensive database of such trees.
The creation of such a database requires hours,” he said.
The official senior company promised to take steps to identify vulnerable trees and trim their branches.
