More protest at Old Goa against sustainable construction on heritage sites

Old Goa: In an effort to save a heritage site at Old Goa and its surroundings, hundreds of people organize a general meeting in the St.
Cajetan Church on Sunday to protest the construction that appears in one place that is protected.
The protesters have threatened to intensify agitation if the disputed structure is not destroyed.
“Old Goa has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
It is also recognized by the Indian Archaeological Survey.
The Church at Old Goa is an architectural masterpiece and attracts a large number of tourists,” said historian Prajal Sakhardande, accused the construction of politicians.
“Construction work on the Heritage Site of the St.
Cajetan Church does not have permission.
It must be destroyed.
Otherwise we are afraid of UNESCO will take the status of old cave world heritage,” he said.
The protesters accused that the construction of the bungalow had been carried out by the fashion designer who was a BJP official in Mumbai and therefore there was no action taken by the government.
“Old Goa people have protested, but the government ignores their requests,” said Andrea Mascarenhas, added that construction was almost complete.
He said if this illegal construction was recommended, more construction like that would appear and the World Heritage Site would be destroyed.
Among those present were the wife of Ex-Speaker Vishnu Wagh, Aruna, AAP’s Pratima Coutinho and architect Dean d’Cruz.
