More Snakebite cases at Nashik Hospital this year

Nashik: Snakebites reported in Nashik Civil Hospital more this year compared to last year.
In 2020, there were 661 cases of snakebites in civilian hospitals to September-end while in the same period this year, hospitals received 775 cases.
Nashik Civil Hospital Medical Officer Connecting this with a more stringent covid restriction last year which might force the victims of snakebites to take care at a local hospital, such as the Primary Health Center (PHC).

Of the 661 Snakebite victims admitted at Nashik’s civil hospital until September-end, 18 had died.
This year, of 775 patients, seven had died.
The patient’s flow increases in general after April.
Last year, there were 32 acceptances related to Snakebites in April, increasing to 60 in May, 80 in June 157 in July, down 97 in August and showed a marginal increase in September with 105 cases.
The trend is similar this year too.
Of the 22 acceptance in April, the number of patients increased to 75 in May 133 in June, 151 in July, fell to 127 in August and increased slightly up to 130 in September.
Tushar Chavan, Deputy Forest Conservator (East), Nashik, said in the summer, the snake entered deep into the hole to save himself from heat.
However, in May-June when it rained, they came out of burrow filled with water to find a dry surface.
