Guwahati: More strength must be given to three autonomous colleges in Assam to enable them to give their own degrees, Governor Assam and Chancellor of the State University of Prof.
Jagdish Mukhi said on Tuesday.
At the meeting held in Raj Bhawan here, detailed discussions were held on the implementation of the 2020 National Education Policy (NEP) in the state.

The governor asked the Minister of Education Romanj Pegu and the Ministry of Education to ensure that the section of the secondary education in the three autonomy universities was transferred to the nearest high school to enable them to concentrate exclusively on the quality level course.
He also said that all empty faculty positions must be filled earliest to ensure no contract teacher remaining on the roll.
Also decided to designate a committee to learn and suggest ways and facilities for this autonomic college to start implementing NEP 2020.
Minister of Education Minister of Education said the universities had to concentrate on the rendering of the quality of education and work to produce more entrepreneurs.
Higher educational institutions, from a higher secondary level itself, should not only focus on educating students who are registered but also in educating the potential of students who are not registered in their local community by promoting counseling services, he added.
Apart from the minister and major secretary, Kalyan Chakravarty, Educational Advisor Prof.
Mihir Kanti Choudhury, Commissioner and Secretary of Governor of SS Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretary of Joint Higher Education Nivedita Laskar, Director of Higher Education Dharmakanta Mili and Principal of the North Lakhimpur College, Jagannath Barooah College and Nowgong College also attended the meeting.
