More than 1.59 Lakh RTI applications are filed online in 8 years, 11,376 by women: Ministry of Personnel

New Delhi: Of the more than 1.59 Lakh applications submitted under the Rights Act on Information (RTI) in the last eight years, 11,376 submitted by women and the rest by men, according to the Ministry of Personnel data.
Replying to RTI query, the ministry said the total 1.59,107 application was submitted based on the law between April 22, 2013 and November 12, 2021.
From applicants, 11,376 (slightly more than seven percent of the total amount) were women and 1,47,731 men, he said.
Commodore (Retd) Lokesh K Batra has searched for gender details from the Ministry of Personnel with the total RTI application required through a special website.
Portal – www.rtionline.gov.in – Enables RTI Application Online Archiving.
There are provisions for applicants to mention their gender – men, women and sex thirds – while raising RTI questions through the website.
Responding to the application, the ministry said 15,986 applications (1,507 by women and 14,479 by men) were submitted in 2021 (until November 12), 20,792 (1,968 by women and 18,824 by men) by 2020 and 20,762 (1,612 women ) and 19,150 male) in 2019.
A total of 19,709 RTI queries (1,433 women and 18,276 men) were raised in 2018, 18,869 (1,219 women and 17,650 men) in 2017, 17,800 (885 women and 16,915 (981) women and 15,229 men) on 2015 and 16,626 (1,049 women and 15,577 men) in 2014, he said.
A total of 12,353 RTI applications were submitted in 2013 (starting April 22 and so on – portal launch date).
From applicants, 722 were women and 11,631 were men, the answer said.
“Data shows that there is a need to create greater awareness among female about their right to know,” said Batra.
