More than 100 GMC documents, positive Covid staff tests

Panaji: About 100 personnel at Goa Medical College, including consultants, resident doctors, nurses and paramedics, have been tested positive for Covid-19, placing severe pressure on the function of the country’s main hospital.
A senior GMC doctor told Tii that on Wednesday, all routine operations were postponed, because it also functions the department of the patient (OPD).
President Association President Dr Pratik Savant said that the residents had worked with reduced strength because of the delay in joining a new batch of residents, because the inclusion of the postgraduate courses were suspended.
“It’s 15 more days before the process will be finished and the new population will join.
We are afraid at that time, the system might collapse,” said Savant.
Acting Dean Dr.
R Wiseman Pinto issued a department head asking to maintain a routine OPD with around 50% of the patient’s capacity, and to delay all routine operations except for life rescue operations and savings.
Also, the operation that requires blood must be postponed.
The department has been asked to demand all their staff for Covid’s task, and divert resources for Covid management.
However, will continue to attend emergency cases, and emergency treatments are being carried out without obstacles.
GMC has not started an online appointment after request from Hods, to avoid crowding.
Now, around 50% of promises will be given online.
This practice was adopted during the first and second waves, after GMC was forced to suspend routine services to meet Covid patients.
On a certain day, GMC saw more than 2,000 OPD patients, making the hospital the most crowded in the morning session.
Circular stated that monoclonal antibody cocktails will be provided by the hospital pharmacy.
It is also said that the GMC staff will not be entitled to leave quarantine, but those who have mild symptoms will be able to take advantage of seven days of leave from the first symptoms and submission of Covid positive reports.
GMC on Wednesday announced that the first round of cum-cumeling registration for PG and Diploma courses will be held on January 24.
Senior GMC doctors said that hospitals were also burdened because of referral cases from district and sub-district hospitals, although some of them could be easily handled in the end.
Meanwhile, three members of the state expert committee for Covid management have been tested positively.
But the last committee met on Saturday, the three were not present.
