Beijing: The sand wall is more than 100 meters swallowing the city on the outskirts of the Gobi desert in northwest China, in scenes that remind the film disaster.
Dunhuang, a tourist draw with a colorful history as a silk lead post, for a moment disappearing in a cloud of dust when the storm hit on Sunday.
A resident who sought Zhang told Local Media News Jimu that a sudden sandstorm and swept the city in five or six minutes.
“I can’t see the sun,” he said, adding that the city in Gansu province had not experienced a sandstorm in several years.
“At first I was enveloped in the yellow dust of a sand storm, then turned out red and finally black.” Dunhuang is home to several major tourist attractions including the Mogao cave, the UNESCO World Heritage Site with ancient Buddhist carvings and striking desert landscapes.
Sandsstorms are common in the region every spring but are rare in the summer, according to the news agency managed by China.
