Agartala: More than 100 migration birds from California in the United States were found dead in Sukhsagar, a vast lake in the Gomati Tripura district, said forest officers on Friday.
The carcass was found floating on the lake, they said.
Division Forest Officer Gomati Mahendra Singh and Udaipur Sub-Division Forest Officer Kamal Bhowmik visited the site on Thursday and collected a carcass for post-mortem examination.
“Requests have been ordered and the carcass sent to the agartala for autopsy,” Singh said, without divulging further details.
Other forest officers, with anonymous conditions, said that hunters might poison the water body with pesticides, and migration birds, who had come from California for the past decade, may have died after consuming water.
“The carcass was found across the body of water and was very difficult to give the right amount.
However, it seems that more than 100 birds have died.
The reason is not ascertained but Prima Facie, it seems that the birds die.
Because of insecticides,” the official said.
Locals claim that many people have collected dead birds for consumption and wild dogs have taken a lot of carcasses.
