More than 1,000 Aadhaar cards found in trash

Noida: More than 1,000 Aadhaar cards were found in a sack near a garbage dump in Sector 59 area by scrap dealers.
Police have initiated an investigation in the matter.
Of the 1,027 cards, 867 have Haryana addresses and the rest have UP, Bihar and New Delhi addresses, police officers have said. After the documents were found on the main road in Sector 59 area on Sunday, the police approached the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and officials there confirmed that the Aadhaar cards had not been issued by them.
The officials, however, said that the documents seemed genuine, police said.
Some of the Aadhaar card holders who were contacted by the police said that they already have the document with them and were not aware of any other cards that were issued in their names.
ACP-2 (Noida) Rajnish Verma said some scrap dealers informed them about the documents lying in a garbage dump on Sunday.
“A police team reached the spot and the cards were checked.
There were more than one thousand Aadhaar cards inside a sack and most of them seemed to be genuine,” he said.
It has been confirmed that the format of the Aadhaar cards found is about five years old.
“The monogram on each card worked and the details on them are correct.
We spoke to an Army officer whose details were found on a card.
But he said his original Aadhaar card is with him,” Verma said.
He, however, added that recently, he had given his Aadhaar card to a shop owner in Haryana’s Hisar because he wanted a SIM card.
The police are now trying to find out if the case has any links with the SIM card seller in Hisar.
A senior police officer said they have got some leads in the case.
They are also probing if the Aadhaar cards were misused in any manner.
