Mumbai: One of the youngest patients struggling against Covid at the Sevenhills Hospital in this city is a 22-year-old Tiwari Vibha, who also has a heart condition that makes it vulnerable.
When he spent six days associated with non-invasive ventilators last week, his family continued to hope he was immunized.
Resident Kolhapur Shashikant Awhade (24) camped in the Corridor of St George Hospital and destroyed his mother’s name in the ICU.
Anusuya Awhade (40) struggled against Covid and deadly mukormycosis had influenced the eyes.
“Vaccination reaches our village late and even when it happens, almost 50-100 doses will arrive once a week,” he told Toi, explaining why his mother could not get a chance.
Most of the Covid Icus in Mumbai shares general features: patients who are not vaccinated.
At Sevenhills ICU, which is almost one third of the covid load of critical city, 68% do not have Jab: from 133, 91 has not taken one shot.
At St George, seven of the eight ICU were not vaccinated.
The only exception has taken a dose.
At Fortis Mulund Icu Hospital, five of the nine recognized partially vaccinated and two had no shots.
The numbers who mostly informed came from the analysis at the Nesco Jumbo facility at Goregaon – from 619 Covid-19 deaths since March 2021, 93% of those who were not vaccinated.
Toi spoke to several families whose people he loved, who did not or could not get a vaccine, now fight with severe Covid-19.
The reason ranges from not availability, ignorance, lack of awareness about the severity of a strong disease or doubt.
W D’Souza, 68, who fought against covid pneumonia, was not interested in inoculation.
None of the Malad Girl Vibha’s family members were also vaccinated, including his 51-year-old father, mother and three siblings.
The Father, who works in the diamond polishing unit, said his employer promised to make it inoculated and he was waiting.
He said they had never tried vaccinated by visiting the center or registering in Cowin.
Resident Kolhapur Shashikant said his 50-year-old father had taken both doses because he worked in a factory while he himself had one dose.
He said his mother was open to vaccination but shares were not easily available.
He developed Covid and then Mukormycosis last month.
Mumbai Civic Corporation claims to have vaccinated 80% of the city population with at least one dose but the reality in the field may be different.
