PANAJI: During verification to prepare the last draft coastal zone management plan (CZMP) for Goa, the total area of 3.07sQkm from the dunes was found on the beach stretched throughout the state.
Most of the dunes cover the total area of 2.4SQKM have been found along the coastline of the South Goa, with only 0.67sQKM which is in the stretch of North Goa Beach.
During the Truthing and verification process for CZMP, it was found that the area in the cave under the previous Dune sand was reported in the draft prepared by the National Sustainable Coastal Management Center (NCSCM).
While the coastal coastal coastal committee (GCZMA) coastal coastal identified Dunes Sand covering a total area of 75.42 lakh sqm, NCSCM only limited 29.35 previous lakh sqm areas.
“The authority noted that NCSCM was one of the experienced scientific institutions that was notified in CRZ notifications, 2011, for CZMP preparation.
Therefore, NCSCM can consider recommendations from experts and with their expert knowledge, decide,” Gczma said, before continuing the report Expert Committee to NCSCM.
CZMP’s last draft at this time with the Ministry of Environment Union and was awaiting his approval before resolving and notified.
The dune is an important ecosystem, which protects the interior of coastal flood caused by storms, winds and waves.
They are also home to local flora and fauna which is only found on the dunes.
The GCZMA Expert Committee found more than 10 lakh SQM from additional sand dunes in Cavelossim, who did not look for in NCSCM data, which was the biggest difference in any coastal area.
In 2018, NCSCM conducted a survey of Dunes sand in Goa to prepare CZMP drafts for the country, but this survey seems to mostly reflect the hill which has been previously restricted by NCSCM during the survey conducted in 2015.
The members of the GCZMA expert committee found dunes in Paliem, Agonda, Palolem and Loliem stretched the coast, which NCSCM had failed to limit.
