Bhubaneswar: More than 39,000 Angganwadi (AWC) centers in the state do not have toilets, female Union ministers and the development of Iran’s Smriti children told Lok Sabha on Friday.
The government has established AWC in the state to provide additional nutrition, non-formal education, health, education, immunization, health checks and reference services.
Overall 72,587 AWC is operational in the state.
While all of these centers have drinking water facilities, 39,859 from AWC do not have a toilet.
On March 31 this year, 10.05 lakh AWCS had toilet facilities from 13.87 lakh AWC operations.
On October 3, 2016, the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) understood the petition about the lack of toilets in Angganwadi (AWC) centers.
At that time 53,232 of 71.302 AWC did not have a toilet.
From replies the minister was found that the state had not completed the construction of toilets at AWCS.
“There has been no major changes in the last four years.
Because of poor sanitation facilities, children will suffer from various diseases,” said Actiba, Activist and Applicant of the 2016 OHRC case , But as far as 25,397 AWCS runs from rented accommodation.
In India, 6.54 lakh of more than 13.87 lakh AWC operates from government buildings.
In 2018-19, more than RS 6.87 Crore was released by the center to Odisha against awc rental payments.
The number of rent is Rs 6.46 Crore in 2019-20 and Rs 8.79 Crore at 2020-21.
