More than 40CR India does not have financial protection for health costs: Niti

New Delhi: At least 30% of the Indian population – 40 individual crore – still without financial protection through health insurance even because of its coverage has increased substantially over the past few years with the launch of the government’s ayushman bharat scheme to ‘seized’ Familes, a new report by Niti Aayog say.
This underlines the need for a low-cost comprehensive insurance product designed for “Missing Middle” which is currently not covered by a private sector scheme or under state or central schemes despite having the ability to pay nominal premiums.
“Private voluntary health insurance is designed for high-cost groups – at least two to three affordable levels for the middle.
Affordable contributions such as ESIC, and government subsidized insurance, including PMJAY is a closed product.
They are not available for populations General because of the risk of detrimental selection, health insurance “report ‘for Middle Middle India’ said.
‘Middle middle’, positioned between worse parts and a relatively well-organized sector, mainly an informal sector employed (agriculture and non-agriculture) in rural areas and various jobs – informal, semi-formal and formal – in urban areas .
The ThinkTank government suggests the private sector and the public to build a modified standardized product to cover all disease treatments on the earliest and patient benefits.
It also recommends extending PMJAY and ESIC services for this revealed segment through subsidized coverage at low premiums.
“In the short term, the focus must be to expand private voluntary insurance through commercial insurance companies.
In the medium term, after the supply side and utilization of PMJAY and ESIC are strengthened, their infrastructure can be utilized to allow voluntary contributions to PMJAY products plus, or for ESIC medical benefits The National Health Authority that monitors the implementation of PMJAY, and ESIC will also increase competition in the voluntary insurance market contributions, reduce premiums and improve the quality of the maintenance provided, the report said.
