More than 50 Percent of PM Cares ventilators at Karnataka unused

BENGALURU: Much as hospitals at Karnataka grapple with acute lack of ventilators and oxygen after having a enormous spike in Covid instances, 1,800 ventilators obtained from the Centre are putting fresh.

“They’re lying idle because additional ICU gear like multichannel track, extract and suction pumps and also desimulation components weren’t provided,” he added.
Ventilators are unworthy in several hospitals because they don’t possess the necessary ICU cots.
Reports from different districts aren’t encouraging.
“We had been awarded 20 ventilators, of which are still dysfunctional,” explained Dr S Naveen, chief, Rajarajeshwari Medical College and Hospital, Bengaluru.
The major challenge is that the dearth of trained employees, based on Dr MK Sudarshan, chairman, Covid-19 Technical Advisory Committee.
He said there is an acute lack of labour — a ventilator unit requires two physicians both anaestheticians and 3 physicians.
“Now DCs are requested to seek the services of physicians and other employees anyplace on contract, so the problem is steadily improving,” he added.
Narayana said dispersing ventilators among private colleges would be to use their infrastructure and manpower.
“Physicians are seriously needed and we are ready to find out more admissions to ICU beds using ventilators after accepting hospitals board,” he further added.
According to Friday, 599 of those 620 ventilator beds at BBMP limits were inhabited.
Officials said that the list excludes those that have never been utilized yet.
