NEW DELHI: A set of over 600 academics and vice-chancellors on Tuesday led to the Supreme Court to take suo motu cognisance of this post-poll violence in West Bengal and also establish a special investigation team (SIT) to research such events.
In a statementthey maintained that a huge part of their society is still living under fear and alleged that people who”voted contrary to the TMC at the recently held meeting elections are being victimised.” Countless individuals have migrated into the adjacent states of Assam, Odisha and Jharkhand because of fear of getting assaulted or killed with”hooligans encouraged by the ruling party of Bengal,” they maintained.
“We appeal to question by independent governments including National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and appeal to the Supreme Court to take suo motu notice of the problem and setup SIT to inquire into the events,” the team stated.
Stating that these actions of violence and politics of dread endanger the Constitution and ruin the fundamental building blocks of democracy, so they said it shouldn’t be tolerated.
Even the BJP has blamed the nation’s judgment Trinamool Congress for its violence, whereas the TMC has since accused that the saffron celebration of politicising episodes of violence from which, it’s stated, its employees also have lost lives.
The state government also has refuted the allegations of big scale violence.
