Thiruvananthapuram: On June 30, 2021, the official Covid Kerala toll road that was cut by the State Health Department had failed to include more than 6,000 Covid-19 deaths that had been certified by doctors in the field, referring to the disturbing difference between Covid’s death and declaring death Covid.
Data obtained by TOI through RTI revealed that the state declared 13,235 Covid deaths until June 2021 as carried out on 15,584 Covid deaths was actually registered by local agencies in accordance with the head of the head registrar (birth and death), showing a striking incompatibility of 6,349 deaths.
M Ramaykutty, Registrar Head (Birth and Death) said the cause of death was recorded as Covid-19 based on reports received from medical officers related to the specified format.
Death registration is carried out in two parts of local bodies; Legal and statistics.
The cause of death is recorded in the study register and analytical purposes and Covid death registration data has been compiled from this section through RTI.
The government has maintained that Covid death is certified by a team of doctors according to ICMR and WHO guidelines but health care experts show that medical officers who treat the deceased are better to do that.
Although the state government officially recognizes the possibility of a large gap between the deaths that are registered and stated, it is awaiting formal individual complaints than honestly overcoming data anomalies.
