More than 7,800 PIB accreditation is given between 2018-20: Government

New Delhi: More than 9,000 applications for the accreditation of the Bureau of Press Bureau received between 2018-20, where 7,831 was given, the center told parliament on Friday.
In a written reply at Lok Sabha, Minister of Compatibility for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur also informed that this year so far, 2,514 media people living in Delhi and the outskirts were given accreditation by the Bureau.
He was asked about the information bureau accreditation (PIB) provided in the last three years.
“During 2018-20, 9,220 applications for accreditation are accepted where 7,831 has been given accreditation and 227 applications rejected because they do not meet the conditions of feasibility,” said Thakur.
He added that the state government has their own norms and guidelines relating to the accreditation of media people.
PIB accredited journalists have access to the media room and PIB library at the National Media Center, said Thakur.
They were invited to attend a press conference and a briefing from the Indian government and preferably for the publication of the trajectory for the coverage of the Independence Day and Republican ceremony, the Minister said.
PIB accreditation is given by the Center Press Accreditation Committee, according to the 2012 guidelines for administration of accreditation to news media representatives, said Thakur.
Because asked about the details of the residence available in Delhi for accredited journalists and the number of residences allocated to them, the minister said the Estate Directorate had told that at this time, there were no public housing accommodations (GPRA) which had been allocated for accredited journalists.
At the query of other facilities to accredited journalists, the minister said, “Accredited journalists have been given concessions by Indian trains.
The train Ministry has notified that given the Pandemic and Covid protocols, concessions to all passenger categories (except four categories of Divyangjan, 11 patient categories And students) have been withdrawn from March 20, 2020.
“He added that the financial assistance provided based on the journalist welfare scheme was reviewed regularly by the government.
