More than half the Covid case in October was a breakthrough infection

Gurgaon: Shiv Kumar (50), a resident of sector 30, was relieved in July after half a wave of maneuvering through a pandemic when he got a second dose of covishield and ‘fully vaccinated’.
On October 15, Kumar, who had coronary arterial disease, was tested positive for Covid-19.
The infection surprised him and shook his confidence.
Kumar was surprised.
Although it does not need to be hospitalized and he is treated at home, his family members are now scared and also worried about post-covid syndrome and other complications.
Like Kumar, there are several other case of breakthrough infections – the term used to show cases where people are infected even though they are fully vaccinated.
Most of these patients, according to the doctor, do not show symptoms or have mild symptoms such as cold, cough and fever, but do not require hospitalization, which shows that vaccines offer the level of protection.
Amar Saini (62), a resident of Sector 48, got Covid on November 1, four months after receiving a second kick.
“I got an infection from my child who went to work every day.
I was received in hospital for two days as a precaution because I had suffered diabetes for the past 20 years.
I have recovered but because of pollution, the Covid effect lingsers and I still feel sick Most days, “Saini said.
Similarly, Geeta Sharma is 65 years old, who lives in Sector 65, infected on October 29.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary suffering (COPD), he received a second dose of covishield on June 26.
“I was surprised that I was able Still taking medicine because my lungs are compromised, “he said.
The percentage of breakthrough infections in the total case shares has increased in recent months, revealing government data.
From 26% in August (43 of 163 cases), up to 41% in September (62 of 150 cases) and 56% in October (157 cases).
The doctor said the infection breakthrough is expected because there is no vaccine that promises 100% protection.
“They are common.
It is important that these cases are detected on time to start the earliest treatment,” said Gurgaon’s Head of Virender Medical Officer Yadav.
He added that vaccination might have given the wrong confidence people, encouraging many people to say Covid protocols.
Infection, he said, shows why even vaccinated fully cannot be protected and must continue to follow Covid norms such as social distance, hand hygiene and wore masks.
Dr.
Manoj Goel, Director, Pulmonology, Fortis Memorial Research Institute, said that less than 1% of the patient’s breakthrough infection requires an entrance ticket or ICU oxygen because vaccination reduces the severity of symptoms.
Death in such cases is rare, he added.
“In cases where people who are fully vaccinated, the victims are very old or have severe comorbid conditions,” Dr.
Goel said.
Dr.
Ankita Baidya, Consultant (Infectious Disease), Manipal Hospital, said that while the breakthrough of the infection has been from the Delta variant, they have not seen a case where a patient has recovered from him during the second wave of infection.
