Tamil Nadu Weavers received more loans under the Mudra scheme rather than all other countries put together in the last three years, according to the Textile Minister Union Piyush Goyal.
In a statement made in Rajya Sabha on Thursday in response to the request of the Vaiko MDMK leader, Piyush Goyal said 41,568 Tamil Nadu Weavers provided loans under the Mudra scheme in 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21.
This is much higher than 25,193 loans agreed to weavers from all other countries put together during the same period.
The number of loans given to weavers from Tamil Nadu contributed to the RS 207 Crore, while the loans given to all other countries were Rs 159 Crore, according to Goyal replies in Parliament.
In his proxy, Vaiko has been looking for details about the status of the National Handloom Development Program (NHDP), whether there are shortcomings in programs based on programs, reasons for lacking and efforts to reverse the trend.
Goyal said that for the past three years 1,438 weavers benefited from the scheme of the development of the central government skills while 9924 weavers were trained in other parts of the country.
Similarly, 1,955 weavers from TN are provided with looms and accessories, while weavers from all other countries are donated for 20192.
