Sydney: Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Monday said his country’s health system could overcome the new wave of Coronavirus infection because Victoria’s country reported a number of new cases and inpatients who surged in New South Wales.
Morrison spoke in two television interviews before Monday’s figure was released.
Victoria reported 8,577 new cases, a record of countries that surpassed the previous 7,442 peak on New Year’s Day.
New South Wales, the most populous state of Australia, saw a slight decline in the number of cases from a record 22.577 on Saturday to 20,794 on Monday.
But the number of people in the hospital rose to 1,204 from 1,066 the day before.
There were 95 people in intensive care, 12th gain the previous day.
Speaking with seven networks, Prime Minister Morrison said the Australian health system was well equipped to handle waves in the number of cases caused by the spread of omicron variants.
“It is very important that with the increasing number of cases, we see that the fatigue of this disease has been proven by around 75 percent less than what we see with Delta,” Morrison said.
“Increased case number is part of the Omicron period, it’s part of the new phase of the pandemic we are.” “That does not mean saying it cannot put pressure on the hospital system.
It can and that is why we work very closely with (state) Prime Minister and the main minister to ensure the resources exist,” Morrison added.

Morrison said the federal government would take steps to ensure hospitals have the resources they need to overcome increased acceptance.
His government last week changed the definition of “contact lid” to ensure health workers who might be exposed to active cases do not have to isolate and can return to work.
“We want to make further changes this week to get more staff back to our hospital and deal with needs,” Morrison told 9 news.
