Mumbai: BJP won the highest number of seats, 384 of 1,638, in the election of Nagar Panchayat in the state, the results were stated on Wednesday.
NCP was second with 344 seats and Congress won 316 seats.
Shiv Sena, the party led by Minister of Uddhav Thackeray, was in fourth place.
Both BJP and NCP claim control over the highest number of Panchayats Nagar in elections.
“BJP and its allies have won the highest number of Panchayats Nagar despite using money and muscle strength and government machinery by MVA,” said opposition leader in the Devendra Fadnis assembly.
NCP Unit of the President of the President and the Cabinet Minister for Water Resources Jayant Patil Tweeted: “NCP has emerged as number one party in the Pancar Nagar Pancar poll.” The selection was held for 106 Panchayats Nagar after the Supreme Court verdict converted 27% of seats provided for other backup classes (OBC) into an open chair.
The results for 97 Nagar Panchayats were declared on Wednesday and for nine Panchayats Nagar in the Gadchiroli district would be declared on Thursday.
BJP claims it won the highest number of seats due to OBC support.
“They are traditional BJP electoral banks.
But they are increasingly disappointed with MVA parties because of the lack of sincerity on the quota problem,” Fadnivis said.
Among the big winners of the day was Rohit Patil, the son of NCP politician late R R Patil, at Kavto Mahakal Nagar Panchayat from Sangli Regency.
“I remember my father today and was happy to have fulfilled his dream,” he said about his political debut.
The Central Minister, including the State Minister for Raosaheb Danve and the Minister of State for Health Bharti Pawar from BJP, is among several major politicians suffering from setbacks.
Union Minister Narayan Rane has a variety of results in the constituency controlled by him.
State politicians, including the Minister of Justice of Social Justice Munde from NCP, the Minister of State for Kadam Congress Cooperation, and Girish Mahajan from BJP also faced setbacks in their fortresses.
