Most: ‘Local residents will not be stopped, no lock for now’

Mumbai: Because Omicron’s case continues to shoot in the state, the Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Thursday clarified that even when the curbs were being discussed, there were no plans to turn off the Mumbai local train.
Tope also confirms that locking is not on the card.
“Turning off the Mumbai local train is not under discussion,” he said after a review meeting in the Covid case called by the Head of NCP Sharad Pawar.
“The night hours and weekend hours are discussed but finally, the chairman of the Minister of Uddhav Thackeray will decide on restrictions,” Tope said.
He also said there were no plans to have a district lockdown in the state.
Officials said various factors were weighed before deciding restrictions.
Limiting the Category of Train Commuters, and reducing the presence in the office and shop timings and restaurants are some of the sidewalks being discussed.
“We must immediately take steps to limit the crowd and meeting but we must be careful that this can be accepted by people and not paralyzing the economy,” said a senior official.
The decision is likely before the weekend.
Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Food and Civil Equipment Chhagan Bhujbal said the government would be forced to take harder steps, including “no vaccination, no ration”, for people who have not taken Jab.
Bhujbal told reporters in Nashik: “Because there are some who do not take their shots for no legitimate reason, we may have to force to deny the ration, especially in the district where vaccination numbers are very low.”
