Kolkata: Even as Covid-19 patient count in the general ward declined gradually in most hospitals in the city, there was a tendency to increase in a positive patient count in the Covid critical care unit.
Some have raised the covid of their intensive care bed.
“From the 20 Covid ICU beds around a week ago, we have increased the number until 30.
Everything is now occupied, mostly by patients with accompanying diseases,” said Pradip Tondon, CEO, Belle Vue Clinic.
All 130 critical care units of covid beds in three units of Amri Hospital are currently occupied.
It has around 112 patients undergoing treatment in public beds.
Until last week, RN Tagore International Heart Sciences Institute had 45 cvid cvu beds.

“We must add beds because many patients with heart condition, kidneys and other problems are also tested positively and they need intensive care treatment,” said R Venkatesh, regional director (east) Narayana Hospital.
While the majority of patients in Covid-19 CCUS they have combed other existing diseases and Covid-19 becomes incidental, hospitals say they also see increased complications caused by covid infection.
“Some patients also come with Covid complications, including pneumonitis, prolonged fever and respiratory problems.
So, there is an increase in demand for intensive care beds, “said CEO of Peerless Hospital Sudipta Mitra.
Last week, the number of Covid patients in CMRI departed to 120.
While the hospital was seen a 20% decline in a count of patients, DIP was being registered with a general ward.
“There is a slight increase in patients who need care in the Covid ICU but most don’t need oxygen support,” said Simmardeep Gill, CEO CK Birla Hospital.
CMRI currently has 48 patients in the general ward and 49 in the ICU.
“We found lung involvement in some younger patients,” said King Dhar.
Twenty-six patients are currently in the Dhar team in this CMRI respiratory treatment unit.
Some hospitals, though, still have fewer number of patients in Covid ICU.
