Mumbai: For the second day in a row, Covid-19 cases in Mumbai and Maharashtra reported a surge.
Tally Covid Daily rose sharply in Mumbai, doubled from 195 cases 10 days back to 398 on Thursday.
This is the highest calculation since the first week of August when the daily count began to fall below 300 cases.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra reported 5,108 new cases, up from 4,145 cases on August 16.
The daily test level in Mumbai also rose to 0.95% (41,628 tests as against 398 cases) after falling down 0.7% on a few days.
The state added 159 fatalities, while Mumbai added seven deaths.
Kaseload Maharashtra rose to more than 64.4 lakh, where more than 7.4 lakh was in Mumbai and the total death rose to almost 1.4 lakh, where 15,963 were in Mumbai.
However, BMC officials said there was no reason to worry.
“The daily lift level is still below 1%.
Because we are testing more, more cases are detected,” said the additional Commissioner BMC Suresh Kakani.
He has spoken with Kerala health officials who said that despite increasing cases, less than 5% needed inpatient.
“In Mumbai, we have infrastructure ready in terms of beds, drugs and oxygen supplies.
There is no reason to worry,” he Kakani.
Meanwhile, more than 95% of villages in Palghar district have been declared free covid, with only 91 active cases.
The Mokhada and Vikramgad tribal belt has zero cases.
District officials said with 859 of 903 villages that were free from infection, more schools tended to be reopened.
Palghar remains the most vaccinated district at 31% – from more than 9.4 lakh doses given, only 2.4 lakh has got two shots.
According to the Weekly Covid update presented to the Cabinet, the growth rate of the country’s weekly case has dropped to 0.07% and the average weekly peposititivity rate is 2.5% and there are nine districts that have a higher weekly level of primitist than the country’s average .

We have increased our bed capacity and oxygen production,” said Minister of Health Rajesh Tope.
