Ahmedabad: Because Covid’s case began to rise in the city, the AMC solid waste management team began checking randomly to enforce mask rules in various regions of January 1.
At the end of the week, AMC found the number of violators of the highest mask rules from the area of the northern western zone such as Bodakdev, Bopal, Thaltej, Sindhu Bhavan Road, Ghatlodia, Gota, and Chandkheda.
Violations are the least in the central zone area such as Khadia, Daradur, Shahpur, Jamalpur, and Shahibaug.
The department has stopped the enforcement of mask rules after the Covid case began to decrease in May 2021.
“From 1 to 7 January this year we found 204 people without masks in our NW zone,” AMC official said.
“The second highest number of violators, 177, was found from the Southwest Zone region such as Jodhpur, Vejalpur, South Bopal, Sarkhej, and Maktampura.” The number of offenders, only 30, found in the central zone, the official said.
“On average, we mobilize 80 teams every day in the city starting from January 1 to carry out checks in various fields to enforce masks and social distance rules,” the official said.
He said that AMC collected Rs 1,000 well from such offenders.
The official added that the most frustrating aspect was that violators began to argue when officials arrested them.
“In many cases, instead of apologizing they began calling influential people and trying to escape because they were fined,” the official said.
He said that the department would continue to conduct examinations in public places where a large number of people gathered.
