Thane: a 30-year-old housewife from Kalwa has been arrested for killing her six-month-old baby and then throwing off the corpse in the drum full of water, the police said on Sunday.
Police said the defendant, Shanta Chavan, lived with her husband who worked as a laborer and three children including a baby who died in Saybanagar slum in Kalwa.
“Based on our initial investigation, we found the woman, on Friday, feeding a baby’s son with several doses of cough syrup because it often coughs that might cause her death,” said Avinash Wavure, Deputy Commissioner of Police.
The woman then secretly threw away the corpse in the neighborhood drum at the early hours of the next morning and then approached the police accusing her baby lost, Senior Inspector Manohar Awhad from the Kalwa Police Station.
“We originally registered the kidnapping case and began to look for babies,” he said.
The police team consisting of Psi Kiran Baghdane, Pi Crime Sudesh Azgonkar, IO Jitendra Kunwar, Fire Prakash Dinkar, fire Sagar Gonte, fire MP Mahajan along with the others scan the area and also checked CCTV footage at the edge of the stretch but did not find anything suspicious after They found the body thrown out in a drum containing plastic water near the defendant’s residence.
Proper police detained several suspects but did not find their role in the incident.
The role of the woman was exposed after she faltered several times when questioned by the police and finally acknowledged the crime.
The kasing was cracked within 24 hours by the police.
“The woman said that she was afraid of being reprimanded by her family after the baby was lifeless after consuming syrup and decided to cook a story to avoid suspicion.
However, when we checked his claim, we suspected something wrong and on the interrogation, he acknowledged his crime,” said a man Police officials.
The police subsequently investigated this case to find out the motive behind the crime.
