Panaji: Calangute Residency, a government-managed tourism facility around the popular Calangute coast, has been thrown into private players.
Goa Poundism Development Corporation (GTDC), which operates this property – one of the oldest and most commercial occupancy figures, with very high occupancy figures – has waved requests that invite tenders for proposals (RFP) for private players to “participate” in renovation.

In the assembly session that was recently concluded, the Opposition MLAS raised the problem of privatization of government tourism properties.
“GTDC wants to bind with a private entity to propose the appropriate commercial concept, renovate the property, and after it operates and maintains the same thing,” said a senior officer.
“Calangut residency that has been developed will be given fairly for successful bidders.
Private entities must develop appropriate concepts, renovate existing structures based on the concept, and operate and maintain them together.” Bidder must have experience in the development or operation or maintenance of commercial space Minimum 1,000 square meters for a minimum period of three years anywhere in India, before the last date of the offer.
Also, a successful bidder must form a special purpose vehicle to implement the project.
The officer said that the GTDC would hand over existing structures – the built-up area was 1,668.8 sq m – to a successful bidder.
He said that the corporation, “based on the best effort” will facilitate the successful bidders in securing permits, nocs and permits needed from various legal authorities.
GTDC will also “market services through its website, various channels, forums, companies, outlets and related entities to try and secure the success of the project”.
The corporation can also encourage publicity for the project, and help in promotional activities.
