New Delhi: Delhi University has been told that it will stop the MPhil title from the next academic session.
While this decision was in line with the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, several teachers said they would affect students from the marginal group, especially women.
“Unlike the PhD, MPHIL is a short-term degree of research, which gives students the exposure to research work and adds their CV,” pointing out Miranda’s home of Teacher Abha Dev Habib.
“Students from a detrimental background, especially women, look up mphil as their research degree can be able to go to teaching work.
NEP 2020 is all about widening the gap between the rich and the poor, “he said.
Teachers also argue that components of mandatory research that have been added in the fourth year of undergraduate programs may be ineffective due to short duration.
“If a college runs a program for four years, student strength will also increase, which will require better infrastructure.
With the research program introduced in the fourth year, universities will require better facilities, which are currently not available.
How much will one be able to reach in six months? ” Sanjay Batra from Sri Venkateswara high wondering.
“For students to get their research published, the quality of the work needed,” he added.
This member of the DU Academic Board Mithuraaj Dhusiya argues that MPhil alone, for several generations, has played an important role in DU and other Indian universities in developing research talents through strong courses and higher research recognition.
“It is very unfortunate that NEP 2020 discontinues mphil.” There is also clarity yet on the postgraduate curriculum that will be adopted by DU.
Sachin N, a teacher at DU, said, “There was no discussion that happened yet on the PG curriculum.
There are many problems and it seems as if the government just tries to tick all the boxes.
” These problems will appear three years after the NEP is implemented at the undergraduate level, he shows, accusing “no culture there is no discussion here”.
Du Deputy Chancellor Yogesh Singh, however, said, “The curriculum for the postgraduate program will appear only later.
Only after at least two years that we will start working on the curriculum as a new batch will be closer to graduating at that time.
” But he assured that there would be a simultaneous PG course for students with three years and four years of UG degrees.
“Until now, Cu-cet will only be for undergraduate acceptance,” he explained.
