Mumbai: Power State utility company, MSEDCL, announced on Friday that they had detected a total of 3,655 cases of electricity theft between April and December last year in the Mumbai Metropolitan region which included Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai parts.
Sharing statistics with the media, officials said that there were very few cases of power theft during previous locking in 2020 and early 2021 because there were no vigilance staff to visit those sites and most of the contamination zones.
After the second wave of last year, the MSEDCL alert team carried out various surprises in Mulund, Bhandup, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Pen-Panel and Nabbed perpetrators for the theft of power for the total RS 19 Crore.
Chief Engineer Suresh Ganeshkar said, “We solve some good cases for the past nine months.
We also check all meter readings that are in the range of 0-30 to ensure that there is no interference.” The Flying MSEDCL squad has detected massive power theft by Plastic granules and powder making units in Vavanje, near Taloja MIDC, which have stolen power for more than 29 months of other key power theft cases detected by a businessman in two violations in Panvel in less than a week in December.
This entrepreneur was captured once for theft of power worth 1.3 crore.
