Pune: Electric Distribution Company Maharashtra Electric Limited (MSEDCL) offers a neglect of RS4,000 Crore on a pending electricity bill of agricultural pumps to farmers in West Maharashtra.
According to a statement issued by the power distribution company, farmers throughout the West Maharashtra owed a total of RS8.007 Crore on current electricity bills.
If these farmers clear their unpaid bills, they will be given a 50% rebate, which leads to a discounted price to total RS4.003 Crore.
Meanwhile, as many as 5.52 Lakh farmers in Maharashtra Barat have used the benefits of the amnesty scheme to clean up their power contributions for agricultural pumps.
This farmer has paid a total RS359 Crore on the current bill and RS409 Crore on past contributions.
According to MSEDCL statements, farmers from the Baramati circle add to the bill payment with 3.76 lakh to complete their contributions, while from the circle of Kolhapur 1.42 lakh farmers have settled.
Pune Circle has recorded a low response with only 32,683 farmers who advanced to complete their contributions.
TII previously reported that 51,529 farmers in the Aurangabad MSEDCL zone had used the benefits of the amnesty scheme.
Formed farmers have jointly pays Rs 9.42 Crores towards their current and extraordinary contributions.
MSEDCL said it would be shaken under extraordinary financial pressure and appealed to farmers to clean up their delayed dues at the beginning.
It warns that their power connections that fail to clean their bills on time will be taken.
As part of a new agricultural pump policy announced on December 18, 2020, interest and payment allegations delayed in power contributions to the agricultural pump were abolished.
Under the scheme, farmers can get a discount of up to 66% in previous contributions depending on how they choose to clean arrears.
According to the MSEDCL statement, consumer farming pumps that pay arrears in the first year will be given a 50% discount for the revised base arrears, and the demands of interest and delay will be eliminated, which ultimately means consumers who clean all arrears in the first year get a discount of 66%.
Those who pay arrears in two years will get a 30% rebate about the revised main arrears and those who pay arrears in three years will get a 20% discount.
Of the amount paid under the 2020 agriculture police, 33% will be used to strengthen electricity infrastructure in the region of the gram of consumers.

MSEDCL also said that farmers can find out about their arrears on agricultural pump contributions by visiting the nearest office or entering their consumer number on the electric utility website.
