Mumbai: MSRTC tariffs can be carried out 17% considering the increase in operational costs, the increase in diesel interest rates and Covid-related losses from the past year, a senior official announced on Friday afternoon.
The official said that tariff increases could be influenced in all buses in Maharashtra, including semi-luxury, Shiva AC Shahi and Shivneris, which ply from Mumbai to Pune.
The proposal for tariff increases can be sent before the MSRTC board immediately, which will look for the state transportation permit before announcing the increase.
“Diesel is an important component in our operational costs as the majority of buses in the fleet of 18,000 fleets that are strong on this fuel,” said another official from Mumbai Central Headquarters.
Diesel prices have increased with more than 100 hike witnessed in the last 15 months and approaches Mark Century in Maharashtra.
Diesel prices in Amravati on Friday are only Rs 1.45 short from RS 100-Mark.
In Mumbai, Diesel rates were Rs 97.09 per liter while the RS 97.21 in neighboring Thane and Navi Mumbai.
“In addition, the MSRTC also issued a large loss with a tone of Rs 4,000 Crore during locking when several buses in the fleet lay still,” said the official.
When contacted, the Managing Director of MSRTC Shekhar Channe did not rule out the possibility of an increase in fees.
“We must reduce losses and increase income,” he said.
