MSU for Learning Woman’s Depiction in Gujarati OTT Platform

Vadodara: Two MS University Departments, including the Department of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) of the Faculty of Family and Community Sciences and the Department of Journalism and Communication of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication (FJC), together bagged a research grant from the National Commission for Women (NCW) .
Project grants worth RS 16 lakh have been given to research research during 2021-22 to store female depiction on the Gujarati Over-the-Top (OTT) platform.
The multi-fold research approach with audience opinions, expert insights, and web series analysis on this platform has been chosen for this research.
The proposal to NCW is sent collaboratively under the theme – ‘gender inequality in the media industry and entertainment’.
This is one of the four themes related to gender problems where NCW invited proposals earlier this year.
“We are very happy to start this study which will definitely contribute to knowledge in the gender domain and the media, especially the streaming platform, which became popular that day,” said Professor Shagufa Kapadia from HDF and the main investigators for the project.
“This collaborative association will also help strengthen multi-disciplinary research, as imagined by NEP 2020,” said Professor Niti Chopra, Dean of FJC and Co-Investigator.
Members of the research team included Dr.
Subair Katathil, program programs at the Women’s Study Research Center, Dr.
Nidhi Shendurnar, Assistant Professor in FJC and Dr.
Gitanjali Roy, Assistant Professor from the Psychology Department of the Faculty of Education and Psychology.
