Mucormycosis: Licenses given to 5 companies to make Amphotericin B injections

In a move to increase the availability of Liposomal Amphotericin B injections to deal with Mucormycosis, Centre has given licenses to 5 more companies which can make the drug, sources said.
According to sources, Indian missions across the world have been involved in securing supplies of this drug after PM Narendra Modi’s instructions officials to get the vital drug from anywhere in the world.
Meanwhile, Gilead Sciences is working on expediting the supply of AmBisome to India through Mylan, sources said.
AmBisome is an antifungal medication used for serious fungal infections.
More than 1,21,000 vials have so far reached India.
Another 85,000 vials are on the way.
The company will supply 1 million doses of AmBisome to India through Mylan.
The company is also withdrawing the stocks available in other countries, which would be supplied to India.
