Udhagamandalam: Tiger that killed three people and around 10 livestock in the Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu in the last two and a half months was arrested on Friday after 21 days of search operations.
MDT-23 (Mudumalai Division Tiger -23) was arrested from the reserve forest in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR).
According to a forest official, the tiger is expected to cross the Teppakadu-Masinagudi road at night according to his movement captured in a camera trap located within the range of Masinagudi and Singara forests in the MTR buffer zone.
The operation team, consisting of 30 personnel, was diaular to monitor the movement of the tiger in the area.
“The tiger shows signs of his presence in the area late at night but did not appear,” said a forest official.
On Friday morning, when the tiger crossed the Masinagudi road, the operating team consisting of veterinarians were fired at least four arrows.
One of them they hit it.
However, tigers fled and went to the bushes.
It took almost five hours for the team to find tigers.
The big cat was reviewed again and arrested around 2pm.
