Chennai: Minister of Water Resources Tamil Nadu Duraimurugan on Friday said the Mullaseriyar Dam was safe and carefully managed and regulated by his department after the regulatory curve approved by the Central Air Commission (CWC).
The AIDMK Coordinator O Panneerselvam urged Minister M K Stalin to take all the necessary steps to determine the rights of Tamil Nadu in consultation with representatives of farmers.
In a statement, Duraimurugan confirmed that the dam, owned and operated by Tamil Nadu, was safe.
“There is news that is contrary to the above is not true and must be ignored,” he said.
Tamil Nadu has drawn water through a tunnel to Vaigai Dam continuously to keep the water level according to the rules curve.
The rain was unrelenting in the catch of lifting the surface of the water in the dam.
“Given the surface of the water increased further, the Department of Government Water Resources Tamil Nadu had decided, beside the maximum water through a tunnel, to release the water from the Mullasyry dam to the 500 Cusec tone by opening two spillway gates of 7.30 I today, after giving notice / Warning well first to the authority of the Kerala State concerned, “said Duraimurugan.
The Supreme Court, on the writing petition submitted by an individual from Kerala, is directed to follow the rules curve until the next hearing on November 11.
