New Delhi: The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) will build automatic multi-level parking facilities at Greater Kailash-I for around 400 cars to facilitate congestion on the arterial road and solve haphazard parking, officials said on Friday.
According to SDMC officials, this facility will appear on the busy M-Block market in the Greater Kailash-i area in South Delhi.
The proposal was delivered at the Permanent HDMC Committee meeting on Friday.
“Automatic multi-level parking capacity in GK-1 will be 399 cars.
This will be developed on line one on Green Park,” said a senior SDMC official, adding the design process and tender to be expected to begin soon.
Officials said the proposal was first compiled in 2019 but could not obtain approval from the previous committee due to the “procedural delay” and Pandemic Covid-19.
The Chairperson of the Tetel SDMC B K K Oberoi said the proposal to build parking facilities would be sent home for formal approval.
Officials said the M-Block market from Greater Kailash-1 was one of the popular places in South Delhi and vulnerable to traffic jams due to parking vehicles on the side of the road.
“Automatic multi-level parking facilities will not only solve haphazard parking problems and abundance of vehicles on the road but will also help in streamlining traffic movements on arterial stretches throughout the region,” said SDMC officials.
The Civic body also agreed to the proposal regarding the liberation of delay costs for dairy cow license holders in illegal milk colonies.
There are five illegal milk colonies in the SDMC area which includes Nangli Sakrawati, Goyala, Kakrola, Madanpur Khadar and Masoodpur.
Every year, the dairy cow license holder must renew their license.
But in the past year because of covid restrictions and subsequently, they cannot do it, the officials said.
The cost of delay Rs 50 per month is charged to the late license update.
It has been released until March 31, 2022, because of the difficulty faced by disadvantaged dairy cow licenses, they added.
