Mumbai: Mumbai police on Tuesday arrested two people for allegedly robbing knifepoint students from IIT Bombay in Powai, said an official.
The defendant, Ayush Radhyshyam Rajbhar (19) and Satish Santosh Yadav (21), Nabbed from Pipeline Road, where they suspected of robbing two students from the Institute, officials from the Powai police station.
The problem was revealed when one of the students approached the police alleged that several men had offered it when he was on his way to campus on January 29, threatening him in the knifepoint and forced him to make an online transfer of RS 5,000 told their bank account, he said.
An investigation revealed that the defendant also targeted other students on January 26 and was put to sleep and forced him to conduct an online transaction of RS 18,000 to their account, the official said.
A case below section 392 (robbery) and other relevant provisions of the IPC have been registered with the defendant, he said, adding that the investigation was running if the duo was involved in a similar violation in the past.
