Mumbai: Among the main airports in India, Mumbai Airport tends to be the last to recover with pre-covid passenger traffic, according to the center of flight consulting company for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA).
The unprecedented deterioration in traffic as a result of a pandemic set the clock back for 13 years because the total traffic at the Indian airport fell 66% to 2020-21 to 115 million passengers, the last level was seen in 2007-08.
Among the public-private partnership airports, Hyderabad is expected to recover in pre-covid traffic at -31.3%, while Mumbai will be the farthest at -52.3%, said Capa Advisory Outlook FY2022.
The model shows the recovery of Mumbai performed poor metro airports.
This is based on the actual traffic performance in the first quarter of 2021-22.
However, it is possible for the airport to accelerate for a year and reach higher volumes, added Capa.
According to the Indian data authority airport, in the April-June period, Delhi Airport handled five million passengers, while Mumbai and Bengaluru handled around two million each.
In the past year, frequent changes in travel restrictions brought by the state government struck passenger traffic at the airport throughout India, but Mumbai airport took the worst hit – may have lost 3.5-4.5 million passengers – register the steep reduction (76%.) Among Metro Airport.
