Mumbai: Police Hill Malabar recently arrested a 22-year-old child because stealing a package, intended to be sent to the buyer, from an introductory agent.
The defendant will supervise the shipping agent and when the person will park a bicycle and save the parcels outside the building and go to drop the package, the defendant will steal the package bag and run away from there.
The defendant, Karan Gada, a Dombivli citizen, was first arrested by the RudeVadavli police when it was suspected that the items he carried were not his.
As long as it was questioned, he claimed to have escaped with several parcels from the shipping agent.
The defendant was then handed over to Police Hill Malabar.
“He will oversee the shipping agent and if any of them parked his bicycle along with other packages and went to drop the package in any building, this was when the defendant would steal the package and escape,” said a police officer.
In one case, he stole a bicycle from the Parel area and used it in other crimes stealing parcels.
“In the case of Police Hill Malabar, he stole a package that was valued between Rs 70,000 and Rs 80,000.
He knew several people and would sell their stolen goods,” said a police officer.
Interestingly, Gada did all nine violations for 2021.
The case was also registered against it at Andher for the same crime.
“In one case, he has erased all the packaging material from the parcel and only took the valuables.
He will roam in the city and monitor the shipping agent,” another officer said.
The police are now trying to find out if there is a gang like that working on this theft pattern.
After the arrest of Gada, a case with a similar modus operandi was reported in the Hill Malabar area and the police worked to examine the pattern of crime and arrest the defendant.
