Mumbai: The city’s young workers will be harmed when the local train continues the operation to be fully vaccinated from 15 August less than 3% has obtained both of their doses.
Although vaccination for children aged 18-44 years is permitted nationally from May 1, a series of flop sandal policies means the availability of vaccines is a problem.
CM Uddhav Thackeray said on Sunday the city had 19 lakh people who were fully vaccinated (see the box) while announcing a local train decision.
People from the 18-44-year-old age group will become the most cellphone account only 2.6% of which are fully vaccinated.
Immunization for this group fell into controversy from the start.
The center, while opening vaccinations for them from May 1, has put Onus buy vaccines in the United States.
The state, which gets inventory from the center until then, goes to the struggle to get a dose from the manufacturer.
Maharashtra can only manage several doses of lakh which lasts less than two weeks.
Vaccination for 18-44 took place briefly between 1 and 12 May before the state decided to prioritize the second dose for 45-pluses.
Drive was suspended for younger groups until June 21, and only those who were able to buy paid shots got a dose in private centers.
Epidemiologist Dr.
Chandrakant Lahariya said the decision to allow people who were fully vaccinated correctly, but the exception must be made for those who have taken the first dose and agreed to wear a mask while traveling.
“After all, it’s not their fault that they can’t get vaccination or a gap of time between two doses is 84 days,” he said.
Also, decisions can be taken with three to four weeks notice so they have the opportunity to vaccinate.
Dr.
Shashank Joshi, a member of the Covid task force, said the decision to allow people who were fully vaccinated was a global benchmark.
“We don’t know how many percent of people from which age group use local trains.
But vaccination by definition means two doses.
Therefore, complete vaccination as a benchmark is a scientific decision.
It should be quite helpful to maintain transmissions in local check in where there is crowding and trial , “he said.
Lahariya argues that in countries like France and Italy, where full vaccination is needed to enter the stadium, restaurant, no availability of vaccines.
“Here, if someone wants to get vaccinations tomorrow, he can’t,” he said.
Officials said full vaccination in this age group will see a leap in 45 days.
“Many are vaccinated in the private sector.
They will qualify for the second dose at the end of August and early September,” one said.
