Mumbai: After maintaining his plan for three months, BMC finally decided to continue establishing a new Covid Jumbo Center in Mahalaxmi racing to anticipate the third wave.
BMC will now spend around RS 45 Crore on building centers in the same location where the Jumbo 900 center is dismantled earlier this year without receiving one patient.
In June, with the Covid-19 case dropped dramatically, BMC had held his plan to build a new Jumbo Center.
While BMC has floated tenders for the center, it is looking for corporate social responsibility funds (CSR) for the project as well.
However, the corporation found the center too expensive to build.
BMC will now advance with a plan.
The new center will have 205 ICU beds and 250 oxygen beds.
It will also have a triage area to stabilize patients and oxygen facilities.
While the previous center was built using CSR funds, BMC would spend around RS 45 Crore on the new one.
Three companies have offered to build it and participate in tenders.
However, officials said there was an escalation of costs in the offer.
BMC has faced flak from opposition for poor planning and has to spend RS 45 Crore.
The facility, which was built by Naman Group, was handed over to BMC in July 2020.
BJP Corporator Vinod Mishra, “Even if it is a CSR fund, it is the money that is intended for the public.
And now they will spend the Rs 45 Crore.
At the center already Ready, maybe no longer needed.
“When contacted, Suresh Kakani, an additional Municipal Commissioner (health), said,” We have completed all formalities but keeping work orders for standby now.
If there is a wave in case, then we will establish this Jumbo Center .
We have allocated contracts in a transparent way.
We will use all Jumbo centers optimally and ensure that there is no waste of money.
