Mumbai: BJP demands postponing NA tax notifications

Mumbai: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ashish Shelar demanded that the government delay the recovery of non-agricultural taxes from housing communities in Mumbai.
Shelar met the State Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat to seek delays show that around 20,000 buildings were influenced by NA tax notices.
He led the delegation of residents from Bandra and Santacruz who had received notice.
“Na tax demand is raised every year even though it is paid at the time of building.
Only buildings in the suburbs are collected by this tax and do not apply to housing communities in the city of the island, he said.
Advocates Godfrey Pimenta, Convenor, Watchdog Foundation said the amount requested in several cases Very high and has caused panic among the population.
“A few years ago when demand was raised to eliminate taxes for housing communities in Mumbai, political leaders have promised to change the code of Maharashtra land income but no one was done to date,” he said.
Pimenta said Na taxes originated from the UK era and did not have relevance at the current moments for urban areas and suburbs of Maharashtra and had to be canceled because this land had permanently converted into the use of housing.
Shelar said the Devendra Fadnis government had just notified the Dike Spent for payments due since 2008 but now the Government of Maha Vikas Aghadi once again issued a notice.
He added that the convincing Thorat would discuss this issue with Uddhav Thackeray’s main minister and make a decision.
